Meet The Artist

Rooted in the rhythms of the South, my art is an exploration of spirit, history, and the evolving identity of our communities. Each piece is a dialogue—between past and present, struggle and triumph, realism and aspiration. My work weaves together visual storytelling, folklore, and urban themes to illuminate the complexities of the African-American experience. Through texture, color, and form, I invite you to step into these narratives and feel their energy.

Damion's Story

Damion Hunter is a native from New Orleans, Louisiana with a  B.A. in Fine Arts from Dillard University and a Masters of Sustainable Real Estate Development from Tulane University School of Architecture. For decades, Damion has dedicated his talents to the diverse art culture by identifying his artistic focus on the relationship between the spirit and contagious rhythms of southern culture. His work explores many aspects of social, urban and visual influences in the community.

Although his talents have an intuitive perception of past-down influences from renaissance artist masters. Damion’s paintings are stimulating and interesting enough to ignite a desire to evoke both current realities and hopes for a better future. Damion’s work spans throughout numerous visual art-forms, including music, dance, literature, and politicized concepts of personal identity that translates into traditional and celebrated African-American culture. Other artwork incorporates urban vernacular themes, visual ambiguity and impermanence design techniques that explore folkloric moments into sculptures, paintings and drawings to better gauge and address concerns within contemporary social themes.

Damion’s artistic and commercial success has been exhibited at art galleries, institutions and artist residencies near and abroad. His desire and urgency to advance in his artistic craft is unending and his accomplishments are challenging, stimulating and rewarding. His willingness to be open and committed to a community that will engage, challenge and grow, will undoubtedly generate and inspire others as well as himself.

“Our problem is to conceive, develop, and establish an art era that bare our arms and plunge them deep through laughter, through pain, through sorrow, through hope, through disappointment, into the very depths of the souls of our people and drag forth material crude, rough, neglected. Then let’s sing it, dance it, write it, paint it. Let’s do the impossible.”
